Orthopedics expert from Oxford University were invited to attend the annual meeting of Orthopaedic branch of Sichuan Medical Association

In April 2019, at the invitation of the Orthopaedic branch of Sichuan Medical Association, Mr Duncan WHITWELL of Oxford University Hospitals Trust,  Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre visited Chengdu to attend their 2019 annual meeting in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, he was accompanied by Mr. Neil White, president of the Sino-British Surgeon Education Association (SBSEA).

The conference invited leading specialists and industry leaders from China and overseas in the field of orthopaedics to learn about the latest technologies and concepts. Over 1,000 orthopedic professionals from various medical institutions in Sichuan province also participated in the conference. Mr Duncan Whitwell was invited to attend the opening ceremony on April 12th and gave a fascinating presentation entitled: The Infected Knee Replacement. His talk explained the modern, cutting-edge ideas and technologies being used at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford to manage those challenges of infections related to prosthesis and revisions, which generated much discussion amongst the full to capacity audience.

                    

                    

After the meeting, Mr Duncan WHITWELL and Mr. Neil White were invited to Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital to meet the vice president Mr. Jun ZENG. As a result of the meeting both parties agreed to establish a strategic cooperation partnership, which will include the reciprocal exchange of personnel between the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre Oxford and Sichuan Provincial People’s Hospital to facilitate future training programmes in both centres.

The next day, Mr Duncan WHITWELL and Mr. Neil WHITE were invited to visit Chengdu Hand-Foot Microsurgical Hospital, being given a guided tour by the Management, they visited the key departments such as hand-foot, orthopaedics and the specialist area of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine. Mr WHITWELL also conducted a brief clinic for several patients with lower limb joint pain, giving his comments. Mr WHITWELL described his encouragement at the current work of the hospital, hopes that future cooperation may be possible.
